LoyaltyLion is a platform used to create loyalty programs for eCommerce stores. These loyalty programs reward customers for their purchases and other actions which encourage brand engagement (such as following their social media accounts, sharing a post, etc). Using a points-based or spend-based earning system, you can set up these earning actions as well as how customers can redeem points.
With the platform you can create up to 4 VIP tiers within your rewards program. This is a great way to encourage repeat purchase and increase AOV for customers, as they’re motivated to reach the next tier, or maintain their status at the top tier.
Creating interactive and sustainable loyalty programs is simple with LoyaltyLion. The platform is easy to set up and integrate with compatible platforms, especially for merchants who aren’t familiar with loyalty platforms.
LoyaltyLion integrates with over 30 platforms, including Shopify, Klaviyo, and BigCommerce. These integrations provide the opportunity for the loyalty program to be intertwined within email campaigns and automations.
It also integrates with over half a dozen review platforms, so customers are rewarded for their input, as well as generating valuable UGC.
With the A/B testing feature, you’re able to learn about your customer’s behaviours, and understand them better. The loyalty dashboard clearly displays analytics, so you can make the most out of your loyalty program.
How Do Loyalty Programs Work?
Loyalty programs work by encouraging customers to purchase repeatedly with your brand, and get rewarded for doing so. The reward can be a dollar-off value, a percentage discount, or a gift. Loyalty programs (as the name suggests) help to foster customer loyalty with a brand. Loyalty can also be identified as the way a customer interacts with a brand, such as following on social media, submitting a review, or referring a friend to the store to make a purchase.
With LoyaltyLion, you’re able to set up ways that customers can earn points, and set the number of points that the customer will receive after completing each action. With LoyaltyLion, you can even reward customers for purchasing a product from a specific collection.
Once customers have earned enough points, they are able to redeem them for a reward. With LoyaltyLion, you can set the minimum and maximum discounts that customers can redeem. For example, if a $5 minimum is set, customers will need to earn the equivalent number of points before they can redeem this discount. This prevents customers from spending small amounts of points as soon as they earn them, and keeps a bigger goal in mind. Setting a maximum discount value will encourage customers to spend their points as they qualify for rewards, and also helps to keep customers engaged with your brand.
With LoyaltyLion’s VIP tier feature, customers are rewarded for their efforts when they reach the next tier. Naming the program and the individual tiers something that stands out and works with your brand encourages customer engagement. LoyaltyLion has a great example of tier names, with ‘Baby Lion’, ‘Growing Lion’ and ‘Lion King’.

Loyalty Program FAQs
A good loyalty program will be mutually beneficial for your store and its customers. For customers, it means earning worthwhile rewards for their loyalty, including when they make a purchase, engage with your brand on social media, or create UGC like a product review. For the brand, it means creating loyal customers who become their brand’s biggest advocates.
To make the loyalty program stand out, it’s a good idea to give the program depth by creating an experience for the customer. Rather than a simple ‘earn points’ mechanism, and having tiers called ‘Level 1’ etc, creating a fun concept for your program pays off.
A loyalty program works by rewarding customers for their actions (i.e. being loyal to your brand). To set up a loyalty program, you will need to define your earning actions, and how customers can redeem their points. For example, will customers earn points at a different rate depending on what loyalty tier they’re in? Or will customers be given set bonus points for each order they place? Will you reward customers for following your brand’s social media accounts, or referring a friend? You will need to set up these actions in the loyalty program prior to launching, and work out how many points customers will earn for certain actions. You’ll also need to set up ways the customer can redeem rewards – for example, does 500 points equal $5 off? Loyalty programs are a great way to encourage repeat purchases and brand interaction – customers just need to create an account to get started.
There are various types of loyalty programs including points-based programs, spend-based programs, programs with VIP tiers (and those without). Loyalty programs can be customized to each individual brand, with a system that works for the brand and its customers.
Once earning and spending actions are defined in the platform and tiers are set up (if you decide to have tiers, that is), the program will take care of itself. Customers will be able to earn rewards easily and spend them when they qualify to redeem a reward. Customers will need to be logged in to their account to access their points balance and spend their points. It’s important to work out a points-to-dollar-value ratio that works within your store’s margins – that’s something we can help with.
